The legendary Martin Kemp has been announced as the star guest DJ at new boutique 80s festival, GOLD, which takes place within the grounds of Dorset’s stunning 10 Castle Street, on Sunday June 28th 2020.
Kemp was a member of Spandau Ballet, an English new wave band formed in Islington, London, in 1979. Inspired by the capital’s post-punk underground dance scene, they emerged at the start of the 1980s as the house band for the Blitz Kids, playing as “The Applause” for this new club culture’s audience.
They became one of the most successful groups of the New Romantic era of British pop, and were part of the Second British Invasion of the Billboard Top 40 in the 1980s, selling 25 million albums and having 23 hit singles worldwide. The band have had eight UK top 10 albums, including three greatest hits compilations and an album of re-recorded material.
The festival is billing itself as a celebration of 80s music and fashion, with a line up of live entertainment alongside multiple outdoor bars, food trucks, champagne areas, and full hospitality, with limited overnight stays at the house available too.
Touring Motown show, Wonderband, are on the first lineup release, joined by a host of the nations best 80s tribute acts, from Queen to Whitney Houston, alongside local legends Martyn The Hat, Jay Rachet, Mike Artwell, Paul Kinvig, Chris Payn, and many more to be announced. Joshua Simons, GOLD co-promoter, comments: “This new concept festival will provide guests with an action-packed day of fun, in the grounds of one of the most picturesque properties in the UK, and just 30 minutes from Bournemouth by car! The lineup is coming together very nicely, with a cross-genre mix of the best in 80s music, starring Martin Kemp, who brings with him some UK pop glamour, and an 80s-inspired DJ Set on the main stage to finish the day off in style!
